Sports Car vs. Quraan - a nice story

A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man waited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Quran. Angrily, he raised his voice at his father and said "With all your money you give me a Quran?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy book.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day.

Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care things. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search his father's important papers and saw the still new Quran, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Quran and began to turn the pages.

As he read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope taped behind the Quran. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words...PAID IN FULL.

How many times do we miss ALLAH blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?

KAEDAH SISTEMATIK AL-HUFFAZ

a) Fakta Logik

c) Fakta Kerohanian
Insya-Allah mereka yang menghafaz Al-Quran akan :

Mempunyai kekuatan akal dan jati diri – hadith Rasulullah S.A.W.
Tidak akan nyanyuk – Surah An-Nahl.

d) Fakta Pengalaman

– Pengurus Kanan (Akauntan [ACCA]) Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad.

f) Fakta Sejarah

perjalanan masih jauh (bhg 2 - terakhir)

Friday, April 7, 2006
Assalamu ‘alaikum….

Kita bertemu kembali dalam bahagian kedua ‘perjalanan masih jauh’. Oklah, di sini ana nk kongsi jawapan ana ttg ‘macamane anti hafal’ dgn antum semua…

teknik menghafal

Sebenar-benarnya….honestly…really….ana tkde rahsia ape2 pon mengenai cara ana hafal. Nk kata, cara ana hafal simple je: baca, tgk makna, padankan perkataan dgn makna, hafal, ulang hafal 1-2 kali, dah tu proceed to the next ayat.

Hah! Sebab tu ape yg ana hafal kebanyakannye masuk ke dalam ‘short term memory’ je..bukan ‘long term memory’! jadi, antum jgn ikut bulat2 style ana ni, ok? =p

Dari sejak mula2 ana masuk thfz sampai sekarang, ana hafal gunekan satu kitab tafsir quran….guru2 ada jugak tegur kenapa ana tk hafal gunakan mashaf rasm uthmani. Yelah, itukan lebih baik. Setiap page diakhiri dgn satu ayat lengkap. Tulisannya yg terang, baris pon senang dilihat. Tapi, ana ni orgnya ‘wuduk tk lama’.. tambahan pula, klw gunekan kitab tafsir tu, ana dapat tgk maknanye dgn mudah. 2-in-1! Walaupun font ayat2 dlm kitab tafsir tu kecil, ana tk kisah..dah biasa..

Ok, bila ana nk mula hafal, ana akan baca 1 section of ayats. Maksudnya, ayat2 yg menyatakn ttg satu perkara. Eg. ‘kisah Nuh a.s. dgn kaumnya’ (surah as-Syu’ara’, ayat 105-122). ana akan baca maknanya juga, kerana ia akan memudahkan ana hafal. Sekiranya ana lupa at one point, ana boleh ingat balik jalan ceritanya.. tapi kadang2 it didn’t turn out that way.. :s

Hmm…ana ni orgnya asyik nak cepat hafal je. Ana malas nak ulang2 ayat yg ana hafal supaya lebih mantap dan melekat kt kepala. Selalunye, bila ana dah lancar je (atau ‘cukup lancar’), terus ana hafal ayat yg lain.

masa untuk menghafal

Ada orang tanya ana, how do you find time to hafal? When is your suitable time to hafal? Sebenarnya, ana tkde masa2 tertentu untuk hafal. Bila ana ada mood je, ana hafal. Bila tahap kerajinan tu tinggi, ana hafal. Boleh dikatakan, ana ni tk consistent ah….

Tapi, selalunya, ana mula menghafal dua hari atau sehari sebelum hari ana ada kelas tahfiz. Misalnya, klw ada kelas pada hari rabu, so ana start hafal pada hari isnin atau selasa.... although there are lots of time when ana hafal betul2 last minute!

Klw kt sekolah pulak, ana hafal bila ada free periods or in between classes. Dlm bas pun ana ada hafal jugak, that is, dlm perjalanan pergi kelas tahfiz @ mks.

Opps! Pause sekejap! Ana lupa nk mention siapa yg jadi guru ana selepas ust sakinah. Ok, penggantinya ialah ust mariam =) ust mariam ni best jugak! Maklum sajelah, darah muda..! energetic pulak tu! ;p kebetulan, ana memang kenal ust mariam (tapi tk rapat ar.. - she was my senior in school), jadi tk kekok, and we get along well too =)

Dan sekarang, guru ana ialah ust nurrul huda.. errr.. baru nk ‘kenal2’, jadi no comment lah ye? ;)

Hmmm.. ana rasa ana nk share itu je mengenai teknik, masa dan tempat ana hafal. Oh! Ada lagi satu perkara: seorang kenalan pernah tanya, “anti selalu hafal berapa page?”

Well, bila ana rajin, dlm satu2 masa tu, ana hafal 1 maqra atau lebih. Kadang2 berdasarkan ‘mukasurat’. Tapi, paling best klw ana jumpe ayat2/surah2 yang familiar, i.e. ayat2/surah2 yang ana pernah hafal kt sekolah. For example, ana pernah hafal 3 mukasurat dari surah an-Nisaa’ kt sekolah, jadi bila kt kelas tahfiz ana nak hafal 1 maqra’ atau 2 page sebelum 3 mukasurat tu, ana akan hafal semua sekali. Jadi, jumlah page yg ana hafal is 5.. kan best dapat hafal byk2..! =D

Wah! Ana rasa cerita ana dah cukup panjang buat entry kali ni… haiz~ sebenarnya, ada beberapa perkara lagi ana nk highlight/kongsi..tapi lain kali je lah ye?

So, stay tuned! ^_^v

Fatwa Bank: Is It Bid'ah to Kiss the Qur'an?

Thursday, April 6, 2006
Question of Fatwa: Is it bid`ah (innovation) to kiss the Glorious Qur'an when opening and closing it?

see the webpage and details here

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother in Islam, we would like to thank you for being eager to learn the teachings of Islam, and we appreciate the great confidence you have in us. We hope our efforts meet your expectations.

Kissing the Qur'an is a way of showing respect. It is not reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do it, but it is reported from one of the Companions. Therefore, it cannot be counted as bid`ah (innovation in religion), but it also is not prescribed in Shari`ah.

The late Sheikh Sayyed Ad-Darsh, former head of the UK Shari`ah Council (may Allah bless his soul), stated in one of his fatwas:

“Kissing the Qur'an is not bid`ah. Imam An-Nawawi reported that whenever `Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) opened the Glorious Qur'an, he used to place it on his forehead and then kiss it, as a form of showing respect, then he would say, "This is the speech of Allah, this is the Book of Allah.”

Based on this incident, the great scholar As-Suyuti (may Allah bless his soul) maintained that it is good to kiss the Glorious Qur'an. This is also based on an analogy drawn with the black stone in the Ka`bah. Both are to be seen as a blessing from Allah.

Similarly, inasmuch as kissing our children denotes love and affection, kissing the Glorious Qur'an is a sign of our devotion and love for Allah Almighty.”

Moreover, the late great Saudi scholar Sheikh Abdul-`Azeez Ibn Baaz (may Allah bless his soul), adds:

“I do not know of any evidence to indicate that kissing the Qur'an is prescribed in Shari`ah, but if a person does it, there is nothing wrong with that. It is narrated that the great companion `Ikrimah Ibn Abi Jahl (may Allah be pleased with him) used to kiss the Qur'an, and he used to say, “This is the speech of my Lord.”

Anyway, there is nothing wrong with kissing the Qur'an, but it is not prescribed to do so and there is nothing to indicate that it is prescribed in Shari`ah. Therefore, if a person kisses it as an act of veneration and respect if it falls from his/her hand or from a high place, there is nothing wrong with that, insha'Allah.” (Source: Sheikh Ibn Baz’s Fatawa wa Maqaalaat Mutanawwi`ah, vol. 9, p. 289)

Do keep in touch. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to write back.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Parable of the Dirty Basket

Saturday, April 1, 2006
An old man lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Quraan .

His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could. One day the grandson asked, "Papa, I try to read the Quraan just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Quraan do?"

The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water." The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.

The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house.

The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.

Out of breath, he said, "See Papa, it's useless!"

"So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket. "

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.

"Son, that's what happens when you read the Quraan. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of Allah in our lives."
